University Sucks
I am so very frustrated right now. When I first received my acceptance letter from University of Toronto at Scarborough, I was so excited. Today was where you start enrolling for classes and yes since few weeks ago, I’ve been planning my timetable but its just ridiculous.
I have 2 mandatory 0.5 credit courses which leaves me with 8 0.5 half elective choices. When I first applied to UTSC, I couldn’t wait to improve and learn things which relate to my major which is New Media Studies but now I am taking psychology, sociology and even business courses. I don’t understand why we study so hard to get into a good university when once you get in, all you do is waste money on these courses which I am not even interested in. On top of that some courses I actually want to take as electives are now no longer offered or lecture times overlaps with my mandatory courses.
This has to be the most annoying shit ever. I dont want to take these social science courses, why can’t I just take new media courses? I can probably start taking New Media classes in my 3rd year because I first need 10 credits to even take my major courses.
Why should I learn these courses? if I wanted to take psychology or sociology, I would’ve applied through social sciences. All I wanted to do was just start going to school and do what i enjoy and learn something which would help my career in the future but now I am just wasting time and money.
This is retarded. People at the registration office don’t even help you, they are so eager to move on to somebody next in line, they just rush you through it and I really hate that. Right now, I am not feeling it at all. I don’t even want to start school. University life is going to suck hard.

I feel for you bro. UTSC sucks really hard though. They’re making you go through hoops just to register for your courses and aren’t the least bit helpful. I guess you have to take into account your program as well though as it seems to have odd requirements. Most people I know (myself included) seem move along quite well with regards to their courses and such. Then again, most people I know have specific programs like computer science or accounting where there are courses pre-determined for you and you just have to enroll in them. You’re case however involves a mandatory minor which is quite out of the ordinary. Anyway, I’m about done my rant. Best of luck to you good sir.

UTSC registrar office SUCKS real bad. It’s way too bureaucratic and not flexible at all. They don’t treat you like a person while all they do all day is simple office work. To me, they’re just like workers on an assembly line. As long as you have a pleasant voice, you cna work at registrar’s.
Even my prof hates the system at UTSC.

UofT = Cash grabbing institution which only really cares about its reputation
Goddamn, if only they had Neuroscience programs in colleges I’d be there right now!

I HATE UTSC! THE WORST UNI TO GO TO! Hell, I should have gone to WATERLOO instead! The registrar! HAH! You might as well just ask the WALL! I bet it would give you an even better response! HAH
April 27th, 2009 at 1:39 PM
I hate how they force us to wear pants too.
Don’t you hate pants?
May 27th, 2009 at 12:04 PM
there is not dress code at UTSC that tells you that you have to wear pants…
and as for Kevin…u shud talk to your program supervisor…posting your frusterations on the web aint going to solve any problem
June 30th, 2009 at 2:54 PM
haha, “UTSC makes me puke”, is so right on! That comment made me laugh, but then made me cry…
The Registrar is total BS indeed…especially in summer when they’re all off on their vacations! So not only will you for sure get a useless response to whatever your concerns are, you will have to wait eons to get it! Double whammy!
As my good friend said (and he used to work there – poor guy!), UTSC is a dumping ground for incompetent and apathetic people who very likely could not get employed anywhere else!
I can’t wait to leave UTSC as soon as I can!
July 6th, 2009 at 5:32 PM
UTSC aint that bad. When something is wrong, its YOU!
August 12th, 2009 at 2:32 PM
Honeslty I am feeling for you I am going to UTM and it fucking blows they don’t help you at all, you have to pay 5000 for courses you are NOT even interested in or will continue to take in the future and even if you do gt help they treat you like shit, like they are so much better then you! I honestly hate it with a passion. U of T has really made me hate school. U of T was my dream school and to get accepted meant EVERYTHING to me and my parents now I wish I never even got that fucking acceptance because all I have been doing this summer is school shit 24/7. I HATE IT!!!!

Hello Kevin, I must say, you’re very very lucky to realize this so soon, I realized this during my 3rd year and couldn’t pull out anymore. Do not listen to others that are so entangled in their own ego, lies, arrogance and ignorance, they’ve become so controlled by the corrupt education systems that they don’t want to face it. They WILL suffer in the work force HARD after grad, I’ve seen it with my own eyes countless times. They’ll realize they’ve wasted 4 years of their life and a huge chunk of money to gain absolutely nothing practical in the work force. I’ve been an alumni for 3 years now, and am in the work force, and one thing I’ve learned which no Univer”Shitty” can teach you is to follow your instincts, it’s how we’re designed by nature, if something seems wrong, 99% of the time IT IS wrong, pull out before it’s too late. I had to suffer 4 years to finally realize it and convince myself to shake it off and move on, it’s not too late for you since you’ve just started, do some self analysis and know what you want to do in life as a career, then follow through. DO NOT be influenced by nay Sayers, the media, hypocrites or the like, most of the time they’re just trying to cover their own failure, and not admit to reality, life will get them eventually. Known that it is your life, your time, and your money. God speed!

P.S. Know that this world is driven by money and greed, university is there to reap money from young people when they’re most vulnerable, especially right after 18 years of high school with the same system. In other words, it’s a free for all. You’re program advisor is “hired” by the school, your prof’s are “hired” to do research that benefits the rep of the school, not to teach the student, therefore I think you should already know what a program advisor will say to you, don’t, and I mean don’t let them play mind tricks on you by appearing to care. I had the privilege of getting comments from a very good mentor, he once talked to me and my peers like this: “Are you studying to become the top designer because it is your passion?” I answered: “I don’t know, maybe.” He replied to me: “Then why the f*** are you here wasting your own time and my time?”. Find out what you’d like to do as a career, and not because the media, or someone else says so. God Speed mate!

To Mr. Ganatheep Jeyakumar, the author who made this comment:
softt, suck it up u little prick, if u cant handle it, get the fuck out of utsc
Comment by Ganatheep Jeyakumar — March 26, 2009
I think it’s your male pride/ignorance/ego talking, seriously, grow the fuck up! I’ve seen countless punks like you, nothing but shit rant, if you like the school so much, go waste your money and life time with it, the fact that you made such comment indicates either you’re in serious denial and need to hurt someone else, or you’re too ignorant to face the facts. People like you will eat your own words one by one later in life. Good luck.
September 24th, 2009 at 3:49 PM
I agree. UTSC in general sucks. Dont bother going to academic advising or any other advisors. They all tell you one thing: “how about you go talk to ____ instead”. Admissions tells me to go to registrar who then tells me to go to academic advising who then tells me to go to my program advisor which then tells me to go see the profs who then refers me to the registrar. As if i have enough time during my fully loaded course year to go FUCK around making appointments with idiotic people that just refer you to someone else instead of helping you solve the problem.

I go to U of T St George Campus. Yes U of T sucks, yes its Profs aren’t arrogant pricks who won’t post their lectures online because their afraid no one will attend lecture, if they do (that speaks more to their appeal then the dedication of students). Yes the course selection for 1st sucks. The President Naylor is a prick who wants to reduce the number of undergrads at U of T because they make more money from grad students.
Despite all of the above U of T is one of the top schools in Canada which is why I put up with their bullshit. U of T ranks #1 in Macleans every year.
December 6th, 2009 at 1:53 AM
U of T ranks #1 in what? And are you including lame schools like UTSC and UTM?
December 17th, 2009 at 7:29 PM
I couldn’t agree more!!!! UTSC SUCKS!!!!! It soooooo over rated!!! I came to this school 3 years ago because the presentations and the university fair all made utsc sound so great. WHAT A LIE THAT WAS!!! ! If your planing on having a university experience that is more than just about books, this is not the place for you. If you your the type of person who finds staying up all night studying consistantly only to be confronted with no more than a 70, than this is the university for you. And I don’t know if its just me but, people here aren’t that friendly, maybe more friendly than downtown but overall they aren’t all that mature. There’s a lot of immature highschool like drama that really pisses me off somtimes! and the atmosphere, damn!!! I thought my highschool was bad, UTSC is even worse!!!!! what kind of university lacks studying space!! the athletic facilities are literally in a basement, there is no available hangout places there always overpacked. and if your looking for extracurricular activities to enrich your university experience, lol you will 100% never find it here!! Although I must admit the MESSA program is a good experience, but thats as good as it gets. If you are considering coming here, please don’t accept before you take a look at the campus for yourself!! spending 4 yrs here in my opinion is a waste of time and especially money.
April 12th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
hey! it has been two years since you’ve posted this. i got an acceptance letter from UTSC. Did you end up going to it? How is it?
April 15th, 2010 at 12:55 PM
@mille yeah, im in my 3rd year at utsc and yup.. still having the same problems with courses but hey, it’ll be over soon right?
May 6th, 2010 at 12:44 PM
IMO, utsc’s great. I’ve had 0 problems/difficulties, the majority of the prof’s are awesome, and marks aren’t that hard to achieve if you put effort in.
June 3rd, 2010 at 11:17 PM
UTSC IS THE WORST SHOOT EVER. Especially their PRE-PROGRAM for management! Biggest scam ever! I learnt that in my 2nd year… NEVER GO TO THIS SCHOOL!!!! They just want you to waste even more money with their new policies every year and you will end up with a useless undergrad degree that’s everywhere on the street now. They say they guarantee the so-called undergraduate employment rate after you graduate but look where their graduate students are! They can’t even get a decent job that will pay them in the field they studied for in the 4-5 years at this school! Pathetic! And don’t tell me that it is because of the economic crisis… there is never enough study space, the whole campus is a complete joke like kaymen says. and now that they are building a new building, guess where all the money came from? That’s right. From all of us who pay the ever growing amounts of tutition (which is completely bull) that will probably get us nowhere. Get out while you can!
June 3rd, 2010 at 11:21 PM
P.S. if they have so much money, at least create more study space or improve the wireless… so pathetic, you can’t even connect to the wireless at times or it lags like Hell. 2GB bandwidth/week? (effective on all UT campuses) Gimme a break… and please fix some of the lecture halls… they smell like damp
July 6th, 2010 at 12:17 PM
The way I see it. They’re improving your general knowledge, so that when you do your New Media courses, you have very intelligent things to add in the media. This does not mean, you would be unequipped to add intelligent things otherwise, just that the structured curriculum makes sure everyone does.
August 8th, 2010 at 6:02 PM
UUmmm, Im really considering going to U of T SC for accounting to become a CA is tht a good idea all this trash talk about utsc is making me take another look i actually was a 100 % going to UTSc but is it really worth it ?
August 9th, 2010 at 1:33 PM
What, do you expect the whole university and its schedules to cater to you? Choose courses that don’t conflict, and wait to take the courses that relate to your degree. Get your minor mostly finished now, so you have more room for degree-related courses later on.
I had similar issues. This year I’m taking 7 0.5 courses in my minor, and 2 0.5 in my specialist. Next year it’ll be 8 0.5 courses for my specialist. (The extra courses are for my BEd… I’m in CTEP).
It works out eventually. Suck it up.
